The TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk is one of Buffalo’s premier running events, bringing together nearly 2,000 runners and walkers each year in support of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Participants can choose between the 5K or 10K course, both USATF-certified and chip-timed.
Each participant receives a commemorative t-shirt with their registration. Prizes are awarded for each race to the overall winner, overall TOPS & Roswell Park associates, and to the top three participants in their age group.
Immediately following the run, a post-race party takes place in the TOPS/National Fuel complex parking lot, with an awards ceremony, door prizes, raffles, auctions, music, food and beverages.
Make sure to bring the whole family! There will be a free Kids Sprint for all children ages 10 and under prior to the official race start.

I welcome you to nominate a loved one for this award by sharing their story. The recipient of this honor not only will become the 2017 Be Brave Award recipient, but will also have a race category award named after them. This category will continue to be given out every year for the life of the event so their legacy will live on."

Now through July 21st we are accepting nominations to recognize a cancer survivor as this year's honoree. The finalists will be chosen by the selection committee and the winner will be determined based on your votes.

Proceeds from the TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk support the cutting-edge research and patient-care programs that benefit the 32,000 patients who turn to Roswell Park for hope. Donations are further used to improve the patient and family experience, support new clinical treatments and procedures, provide proper clinical space to meet the increasing demand for cancer services, and educate the next generation of cancer scientists and clinicians.

Designed to feature the name of a loved one, ribbon support signs will be placed along the start line for all participants and spectators to see as the event begins.
These large lawn signs will be evenly placed along the 5K & 10K routes for participants to see as they are completing the course. Support a friend or family member who may be participating in the event, honor a loved one or send a general message of encouragement and support to participants.

Is there an entry fee?
Yes, pre-registration is $30, and day-of registration is $35. Student registrations $10.
Do I have to register in advance to participate in the TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk?
No, registration will be available on the day of the race. The entry fee does increase to $35 on the day of the event.
Is there an age limit to participate in the TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk?
No, everyone is welcome!
Who qualifies as a student participant in the TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk?
A student is anyone in school, including college. If you are in college, you must have a valid college ID.
What are the age groups that receive prizes?
|10 & Under||50-54|
Yes. There will be breakfast and lunch provided for everyone.
Breakfast will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m. when registration opens and will be available until 9:30 a.m. when the races begin. Lunch will be available beginning at approximately 10:00 a.m. when the post-race party begins.
Where can I park?
Parking is available at the TOPS/National Fuel complex. There will be signs on the day of the event to indicate parking.
What if it is raining on the day of the event?
The TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk will be held rain or shine.
Are the courses certified?
Yes, both the 5K and 10K course are USATF-certified.
Is this a timed event?
Yes, both the 5K and 10K courses are chip-timed by Score-This!!!
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are not allowed on any of the courses.
Are strollers allowed?
Strollers are allowed on all routes. We just ask that those with strollers stay towards the back of the start line for safety reasons.
Can I walk the 10K?
For safety reasons, the only course that is available for walkers is the 5K.
Where can I find the race results?
Chip timing is provided by Score This!!! A complete listing of race results, including participant times, will be available post-race at www.score-this.com.
Can I switch which course I’m running?
Yes, please use the contact form to switch the course you are running.
All course changes need to be completed by 9:00 a.m. on race day.
Is there a bag check?
A bag check is not provided at this event. Parking is close to the start and finish lines so participants are encouraged to leave their personal belongings in their vehicles or with spectators.
What are the age guidelines for the Kids Sprint?
Children between the ages of 5 and 10 are eligible to participate in the Kids Sprint.
What time does the Kids Sprint start?
The Kids Sprint will take place at 9:00 a.m.
Is registration required for the Kids Sprint?
Yes, we ask all parents or guardians to register their children on the day of the event in order to participate in the Kids Sprint.
Registration for the Kids Sprint opens at approx. 8:00 a.m.
